SA CHARDONNAYS SHINE

So much for the ABC (“Anything But Chardonnay!”) crowd—four South African Chardonnays came out tops at this year’s CHARDONNAY DU MONDE competition in France. Of the 1 090 wines tasted from 37 countries, SA’s PAUL CLUVER, BON COURAGE, WELTEVREDE and CAPE CHAMONIX were among the 64 gold winners. In fact, South Africa took 21 of them, while Weltevrede scored a hat-trick with medals—a gold, silver and bronze—for all three of their Chardonnays.

FROMAGE WITH A CONSCIENCE

Franschhoek cheesery Dalewood stresses the importance of happy cows in the making of its speciality cheeses. The Jersey herd spends each day grazing on green pastures where no artificial fertilizers, insecticides or weed killers are used, while being spared additional hormones to boost their milk production. The all-natural end product is preservative- and colourant-free. And the cheese tastes good too. Try the latest additions to the range—a delicious Brie combined with either green fig, chilli, porcini or tapenade, as well as Dalewood’s first blue, the Wineland Blue.
